I’ll be honest – I still don’t quite know how I ended up in recruitment.. But it’s been an eye-opening experience to say the least! Now my job is literally helping people find meaningful work.
I left the farming life in Matamata to do my studies in psychology & criminology in the big smoke (with buildings higher than two storeys!?). Looking green as they come, I don my cheap suit and found an appealing role in recruitment.
I spent a few years with an international agency, and then joined Bureau as a partner in 2019.
Recruitment in public practice accounting has been a great place to specialise and I get to work with intermediate accountants and partners alike on their job search. I have a particular interest in the tax and consulting market and have recruited roles at various levels in this space, and also within general BAS accounting.
The consulting component to my role is what gives me the most satisfaction – sitting down with someone who wants to know their options and then working out which is the best move for them at that time. People always move for different reasons and I enjoy unpacking motivations and tailoring the recruitment process to fit each candidate’s needs.
On the other side, I get to meet with businesses across the country and listen to their story, hear about what they do and then assist them in finding people that are right for their business.
I work in partnership with Luke, and together we work with Big4, down to local boutique firms across the North Island.
Outside of work, I find any excuse to get out of Auckland – the beach, fishing, a cheeky hike… provided there’s not a good gig on of course.
